Description
The Cont’Ugo DOC Bolgheri red wine from Tenuta Guado al Tasso in Antinori is a wine made in purity with 100% Merlot grapes. It boasts the Bolgheri DOC certification and represents for the territory and for the Tenuta Guado al Tasso an interpretation with only Merlot grapes from the Bolgheri area, produced for the first time with the 2011 vintage. It ages for 12 months in oak barrels before being put in the bottle where it remains for at least 6 months. The fragrance and youthful fruity exuberance are the elements that characterize it. It is a deep, complex and very pleasant wine. For the Merlot grape harvest, the selection was made among the best grapes from the 40 hectares of vineyards of the Estate. After manual harvesting and careful selection in the cellar, the grapes were transferred to thermo-conditioned stainless steel tanks where fermentation and maceration took place for a period of about 25 days. The fermentation temperature was managed according to the level of ripeness of the grapes. Some at lower temperatures to maintain greater aromatic freshness, others at temperatures of about 30 ° C to emphasize the polyphenolic extraction and the structure of the final product. Different types of Merlot were obtained which were placed in barriques separately. The malolactic fermentation took place in barriques and ended by the end of the year. After 8 months of elevation in French oak, the best lots were assembled and put back in barrique for a further 4 months. At the end of this period the wine ages in the bottle for about 6 months.
